CEO welcomed Dr. Bill Beyers last week, who shared with the class his insights into inventions, patents, marketing, and working with distribution networks.

Dr. Beyers, who lives and works in Pana, has worked for several years on a number of versions of his invention, and has recently begun meeting with various entities regarding the manufacture and distribution of the invention.

Deciding whether, to file a patent, how aggressively to pursue various types of patents, and when to initiate the whole process is a complicated but important decision. CEO students especially appreciated Dr. Beyer’s candor as he described the parts of the process that were productive for him, the parts that weren’t, and what he has learned from going through the patent cycle.

Dr. Beyers also returned to Effingham for the CEO banker and investor day, examining business plans and offering counsel and suggestions to students.

First National Bank of Pana’s Executive Vice President, Al Stupek, came to Pana High School to talk to the students about the banking and his personal story of success. Al is also the head football coach at Pana High school. He incorporated a lot of what he teaches his players about life in general into his presentation to the students,

Al talked about the different ways to get into banking, and what a student might get their degree in if they wanted to pursue a career in banking. He also wanted the students to keep in mind that they will change as they get older, and what is important to them now might not be as important to them down the road.

One of Al’s main focus points to the students was to learn the business they are working for from the inside out. Doing this will give more opportunity for advancement and also make you a better employee.

Club Opportunity thanks Al for coming in and sharing his story with the students.

Check out a clip from Al’s talk below:
